ACCIONA will undertake the operation, maintenance and conservation work on the desalination plant at Oropesa (Castellón, Spain), with a current treatment capacity of 48,700 m3/day, extendable up to a maximum  of 130,000 m3/day.

The contract awarded by Acuamed, a public body under the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, is for € 3.4 M and two years, extendable by another two years.

As well as the plant, ACCIONA will also operate the desalinated water network to supply Cabanes, Benicássim and Oropesa del Mar, towns with a combined population of more than 150,000.

The operation of the facilities will be carried out under the strictest environmental and sustainability standards.

Reverse Osmosis

ACCIONA is a leader in reverse osmosis desalination with 85 plants built around the world. It currently operates more than thirty projects with a daily production capacity of five million cubic metres, for a population equivalent of more than 25 million; 21% of this figure corresponds to Spain.

In the Region of Valencia the company also undertakes the operation and maintenance of the Torrevieja desalination plant (Alicante), the biggest in Europe with a daily treatment capacity of 240,000 m3, and another at Jávea (26,000 m3/day). It also operates desalination projects in the Canary Islands, the Balearics, Murcia and Andalusia.
