The €18 million project will bring to life the country's history with more than 7,000 objects in an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters, and an innovative "ultra-high definition" audiovisual presentation.
It will be the first museum in the Middle East adapted to blind people.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño has been chosen by the Omani government to execute the design of the National Museum of Oman. The €18 million project is ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño's largest in the Middle East. The inauguration of the museum is expected in the last quarter of 2014.
The National Museum of Oman will have 4,000 m² dedicated to the permanent exhibition, with 12 galleries exhibiting significant themes in Oman's history. In addition, the museum will have a gallery for temporary exhibitions, a visitable warehouse, a storage room and a classroom for teaching children.
The permanent exhibition will feature 7,000 objects in more than 250 showcases relating to the history and traditions of the Omani people. This collection will be contextualized with numerous interactive and audiovisual elements aimed at bringing the museum experience to life. The "Oman in History" audiovisual presentation, shot by ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño, appears in "ultra-high definition" (four times the usual HD quality) and will be projected on a screen of 8.3 megapixels in the museum theater. The video covers a broad chronological period and includes aerial images of extraordinary beauty.
As with all of ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño's projects, the Company's commitment to "social innovation" means that the National Museum of Oman will be adapted for people with special needs. As a result, the National Museum of Oman will be the first in the Middle East adapted to blind people, and the first in Oman accessible for disabled people.
The award of the contract, held in early April at the current National Museum of Oman in Muscat, was attended by His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, the Minister of Heritage and Culture, the Chairman of the Board of the National Museum, and, on behalf of ACCIONA, the Business Director of Producciones y Diseño, Juan Jesús Caballero Trigo.
