ACCIONA has signed a public-private partnership (PPP) contract with the Paraíba Water and Sewerage Company (Cagepa) to provide sanitary sewerage services in 85 municipalities in the state of Paraíba.

The signing ceremony, held in João Pessoa (PB), was attended by Governor Lucas Ribeiro, ACCIONA executives and senior management from the state-owned company.

With a 25-year term and planned investment of approximately €498 million, the project will provide universal access to basic sanitation services for more than 1.7 million people in the Litoral region (including the state capital, João Pessoa) and Alto Piranhas region (including Cajazeiras).

In total, the contract includes the construction of 104 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and the installation of 2,800 kilometers of sewerage collection networks.

Under the concession model, ACCIONA will be responsible for the expansion, operation and maintenance of the entire sewerage system, while Cagepa will remain responsible for water supply and customer service.

ACCIONA has been operating in Brazil for almost 30 years, developing major infrastructure and basic sanitation projects, with contracts in Paraná (48 municipalities), Espírito Santo (8 municipalities) and Pernambuco (153 municipalities and the district of Fernando de Noronha).

In addition to its water and sewerage activities, the company is leading the construction of São Paulo Metro Line 6-Orange, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Latin America, with more than R$19 billion in committed investment.
