ACCIONA actively participates in international initiatives that reinforce its commitment to sustainable development, the fight against climate change and the communication of these concepts.

ACCIONA is participating in United Nations Global Compact since 2005 (Participant member). Every year, it confirms its commitment to the ten principles of the Global Compact, based on respect for human and labour rights, environmental protection and the fight against corruption, and focused on achieving the objectives of sustainable development. The company also participates in other platforms, groups and initiatives of the United Nations.

Besides ACCIONA’s regular participation in events and acts organised by the initiative, ACCIONA hosted a workshop at its head offices for the task force members called “Built Environment” in 2022. The conference gathered about thirty people from all over the world, who were able to discuss the challenges and opportunities found in the sustainable building world in the medium and long term.
On the other hand, the company has joined the pilot task force “TFND” to share ACCIONA’s experience in implementing the pilot project for the TFND framework.
It has also been active in the “Policy, Advocacy and Member Mobilization” (PAMM) task force meetings that aims to mobilise businesses for the imperatives of globalisation, climate, nature and equity, in line with the WBCSD 2050 Vision.
ACCIONA has also taken part in the yearly WBCSD Delegates Meeting 2022 held in Switzerland. This event brought together experts from all over the world to work on innovative business solutions for all sectors and value chains.
On the other hand, ACCIONA had the chance to share its view at the WBCSD Council on the matter of critical raw materials in a changing and uncertain geopolitical landscape.
With the support of the CLG Europe, ACCIONA participated in the creation of the Spanish Green Growth Group (Grupo Español para el Crecimiento Verde). This group comes from a desire to collaborate with companies and governments to create a roadmap (Barcelona Declaration) towards a low-carbon economy, and aims to lead initiatives in the medium or long term and demonstrate the commitment to incorporate climate policies into business strategies, ultimately as a green growth model in Spain should be.
During the last years, the Spanish Green Growth Group has experienced significant growth over the last year, with more than 50 companies joining. ACCIONA has actively contributed to this growth, holding the position of Secretary General and leading the Energy Transition Working Group.
ACCIONA has been a full member of CLG Europe since 2009. This initiative gathers European business leaders who are convinced of the urgent need to develop new long-term policies to combat climate change.
In 2022, ACCIONA signed the Letter promoted by CLG Europe which urged the President of the European Commission , Ursula von der Leyen and members of the EU Parliament to speed up the transition to a green and decarbonised economy, discarding the use of fossil fuels and strongly focusing on renewable energies. A series of examples were attached to the letter, including that of ACCIONA Energía to highlight the decarbonised solutions that European companies are already equipped to offer.
On the other hand, ACCIONA has actively taken part in tasks forces organised by this initiative during the year, and in different strategic meetings led by the initiative.
Accelerate progress towards a low carbon economy by formulating long-term policies to fight climate change
ACCIONA belongs to the World Bank's Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), which unites politicians, business leaders and civil society around the need to establish effective pricing systems for carbon emissions in order to reduce them and thereby slow down climate change.
Ending extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity by helping to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement in the fight against climate change
ACCIONA actively participated to reveal the commitment of the entity in relation to the zero emissions target.
ACCIONA became the first Spanish energy company to join The Climate Pledge (TCP), the initiative launched by Amazon and the NGO Global Optimism, to encourage businesses to become carbon neutral by 2040, ten years earlier than the date established in the Paris Agreement.
Fundación Sociedad y Empresa Responsable (SERES) promotes the business experience acquired individually and facilitates the learning and exchange of knowledge of the partners with projects that respond to specific needs included in their respective strategic plans. Its objective is to make Social Action part of the companies' business strategy. In this way, both the Foundation and the companies adhering to its project work to mitigate the degree of need of the most disadvantaged, groups that increase especially in crisis situations. More than 120 companies collaborate with this foundation created in November 2009. ACCIONA has been a member of SERES since July 2011 and has been part of its Operating Committee since 2015.
