  • The Caclic–Jaén Norte and Ica–Poroma projects will strengthen the electricity transmission grid and help meet the energy needs of different regions of the country.

The General Directorate of Environmental Affairs for Electricity (DGAAE) of Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines has approved the Environmental Impact Assessments for the “ITC 220 kV Caclic–Jaén Norte Link” and “220 kV Ica–Poroma Link” projects, as well as their associated substations.

Both projects cover construction, operation and maintenance over a 30-year concession period.

The work on the Caclic–Jaén line will strengthen the electricity grids in the Amazonas and Cajamarca regions, particularly the Bagua–Jaén Electricity System, helping to ensure a more stable service that is better equipped to meet the future energy needs of the local population and economic activities.

Construction work includes a new substation in Jaén Norte and the expansion of other existing facilities, as well as the development of new transmission lines connecting strategic points in the region, with a total length of approximately 180 kilometers for the Caclic–Jaén concession. The work will be carried out in the vicinity of the rural communities of Paclas, San Jerónimo, Dunia Chico, San Miguel de Chosgón and San Cristóbal de Olto.

The Ica–Poroma project, meanwhile, aims to enable the transmission of energy currently being generated and expand capacity to accommodate future generation, which is expected to come primarily from non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) sources.

The project will include the construction of more than 100 kilometers of 220 kV transmission lines and the rerouting of the L-2315/L-2391 lines; the expansion of the Ica 220 kV and Poroma 220 kV substations; and the construction of the new Intermedia 220 kV substation.

The project is developed in the areas of the provinces of Ica, Nasca and Palpa and in particular near the rural communities of Yauca de Cocharcas and Señor Luren, among other populated centers.

With these two environmental approvals, ACCIONA is moving forward with the development of more robust and efficient energy infrastructure designed to improve the quality and reliability of supply and facilitate the integration of new renewable generation.
