    ACCIONA has been operating in Chile, one of its strategic markets in South America, since 1993. It is actively involved in infrastructure projects for both the public and private sectors. It also provides innovative solutions in energy and desalination. The Infrastructure and Water divisions were the first to open offices there, and the Energy division arrived later. ACCIONA Forwarding also operates in Chile.

    Copiapó Desalination Plant

    Copiapó Desalination Plant

    The Copiapó Desalination Plant in Atacama will be the first for the Chilean mining industry. It will have a capacity of 400 I/s. It is located next to the Port of Punta Totoralillo, owned by CAP Mining in Atacama. This project comes from the need to guarantee water in the mining operations in the region. The plant is already in the operation phase since September 2014.

    Chuquicamata Tunnels

    Chuquicamata Tunnels

    These are two parallel 4.5-km ventilation tunnels which are part of a group of five air injection tunnels for the future underground mine at Chuquicamata. The project is 215 km northeast of Antofagasta, in Chile's Region II.

     

     

    Punta Palmeras Wind Farm

    Punta Palmeras Wind Farm

    Punta Palmeras is ACCIONA's first wind farm in Chile. It was inaugurated by President Bachelet on 13 January last. It has a capacity of 45 MW and comprises 15 ACCIONA Windpower AW 116/3000 turbines. It supplies clean energy to utility Colbún.

    Exequiel Gonzalez Cortés Hospital

    Exequiel Gonzalez Cortés Hospital

    Pediatric Hospital with 169 beds. It has 5 surgical wards and the capacity for assisting a population of 800,000 people. It is expected to be finished in October 2014.

     

    Américo Vespucio Highway

    Américo Vespucio Highway

    Concession for the design, construction, financing, maintenance and exploitation of 23.5 km of highway. The highway contains two 5-lane roads. The magazine Project Finance awarded the highway with the "Latin American Transport Deal of the Year 2004" for being the first time that the Chilean government applied income distribution to a concession and that a bank co-financed a toll road along with investors in Chilean bonds. Acciona later sold the concession.

    El Romero Solar photovoltaic plant

    El Romero Solar photovoltaic plant

    Since October 2015, ACCIONA Energy has been building what will be its biggest photovoltaic plant to date, and the largest such facility in Latin America, in the Atacama Desert in Chile. With a 246.5 MWp peak capacity, thanks to 777,000 photovoltaic modules, El Romero Solar will produce electricity equivalent to consumption by some 240,000 Chilean homes when it enters into operation in mid-2017. 80 MW of its capacity will be dedicated to supplying Google’s data center in Chile.
