ACCIONA, a sustainable infrastructure solutions company on a global scale, has started the comprehensive operation of the sanitation networks of 48 municipalities in the state of Paraná (Brazil). To date, the company merely assisted these operations.
The project involves the implementation of sanitary sewage systems in currently underserved areas, as well as the expansion and modernization of existing infrastructure. The total forecast investment is €310 million ($2 billion) over the next eight years.
The initiative, part of a public-private partnership (PPA) with Sanepar, a state-owned company that provides water, sewage and waste services, aims to meet the goals of the new Legal Framework for Sanitation, ensuring improvements in health and quality of life for a total population of around 252,000 by 2033.
ACCIONA, together with Sanepar, has already submitted an action plan to the authorities, indicating the different stages of the project and the methodology of execution of the works. The project will be gradually implemented depending on the needs and particularities of each municipality.
For its part, Sanepar will continue to be responsible for monitoring, regulating, and operating water supply services, ensuring compliance with the guidelines of the Legal Framework, and maintaining quality of service for the population.
