SR 400 Express Express Lanes
The SR 400 Express Lanes project is a major transportation investment that will expand capacity and improve travel time reliability along one of the Atlanta region's most congested corridors. The project will add new managed express lanes along approximately 16 miles of SR 400, providing drivers with an additional travel option while supporting more efficient movement throughout the region.
ACCIONA, as part of the SR 400 Peach Partners consortium, is delivering the project through a public-private partnership that includes the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the new express lanes corridor. The concession extends for 55 years and is being delivered in coordination with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA).
Construction requires complex staging and traffic management along an existing high-volume transportation corridor while maintaining mobility for motorists throughout the works. The project includes improvements to existing bridges and roadway infrastructure, together with extensive utility coordination, clearing, grading, foundations, retaining systems, and other works required to integrate the new managed lanes with the existing SR 400 corridor.
Once complete, the SR 400 Express Lanes will provide a more reliable and efficient transportation corridor by increasing capacity, reducing congestion, and giving motorists a dependable alternative during peak travel periods. Dynamic pricing, advanced traffic management technologies, dedicated transit access for MARTA's future bus rapid transit service, and a 55-year operations and maintenance concession will help ensure the corridor continues to meet the Atlanta region's growing transportation needs for decades to come.

PROJECT SCOPE
- Approximately 16 miles of new managed express lanes along SR 400
- Two new express lanes in each direction between North Springs MARTA Station and north of McFarland Parkway
- An additional managed lane between McGinnis Ferry Road and McFarland Parkway
- Improvements to existing bridges and roadway infrastructure, including Pitts Road, Roberts Drive, and Kimball Bridge
- Utility coordination, clearing, grading, foundations, retaining systems, and associated roadway infrastructure
- Long-term operation and maintenance of the express lanes under a 55-year concession

The project incorporates innovative managed-lane technology to improve traffic flow and travel time reliability. Dynamically priced express lanes will help manage demand, while advanced traffic modeling and intelligent transportation systems will support efficient operation and provide drivers with a reliable alternative to congested general-purpose lanes. The project also supports future transit improvements through dedicated, toll-free access for MARTA's planned bus rapid transit service.
By increasing roadway capacity and improving traffic flow, the project is designed to reduce congestion-related delays and improve the efficiency of the regional transportation network. Its long-term operation and maintenance model also provides an integrated approach to managing the corridor throughout its lifecycle.
