ACCIONA undertakes the end-to-end management of the service for the Illana – Leganiel Irrigation Community, located in Guadalajara and Cuenca. The company provides services to 280 farmers over an area covering 1,567 hectares, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

The contract includes plans to optimise water, energy and administrative management, resulting in improvements that reduce operating costs and energy consumption.

The catchment water comes from the River Tagus (Tajo). After screening, a first pumping phase raises the water to a pond, and a second pump then sends the water to a pond located higher up. The irrigation surface area is divided into two zones, depending on the altitude. The farmers have individual hydrants, and the water is supplied on demand.

Water consumption is essential for crop irrigation and food production, which rank among the highest demands on this resource in Spain. ACCIONA thus makes its experience and knowledge of sustainable and innovative technologies available to the agriculture sector to guarantee water supplies and optimise asset management.
