ACCIONA undertakes the end-to-end management of the Embalse del Vicario Irrigation Community in Ciudad Real, Spain. The company participates in the construction and improvement of the community’s infrastructures and in the management of its assets and services to the joint owners, with the purpose of improving the quality of service and optimising costs.

The Embalse del Vicario Irrigation Community covers an irrigation surface area of approximately 5,000 hectares and has a 6,280-kilowatt pumping station at the foot of the Vicario Reservoir dam.

After the screening phase, the pumping station collects water from the River Guadiana and pumps it to the general distribution network of the Irrigation Community via a riser tower. The irrigators have individual hydrants, and the water supply is on demand.

About 80% of water consumption in Spain is for agriculture, with more than 15,000 hm³/year used for irrigation. ACCIONA, a leading company in the end-to-end water cycle, is committed to sustainable and innovative technologies to ensure water supplies to the agriculture sector, including irrigation communities.
