ACCIONA provides end-to-end management of the Canal de Albolote Irrigation Community in Granada. Serving more than 1,840 farmers and covering a crop field area of 1,925 hectares, the irrigated zone comprises the municipalities of Albolote, Maracena, Peligros, Pulianas and Atarfe, thus contributing to the sustainability of the agricultural sector.
The contract includes the implementation of plans for water efficiency, energy efficiency and administrative management optimization, with improvements that reduce operating costs and energy consumption.
For water regulation, the Irrigation Community has a pond located at the foot of the Albolote Canal on the road to the pumping station at Calicasa and the Arenales dam. The latter is located downstream of the Colomera Reservoir at the foot of the Colomera Canal. A solar photovoltaic plant on the river drives the supply of water from the Albolote Channel to the irrigation regulation pond.
Water is essential for crop irrigation and food production, which rank among the highest demands on this resource in Spain. ACCIONA makes its experience and knowledge of sustainable and innovative technologies available to the agriculture sector to guarantee water supplies and optimise asset management.
