  • The 30-minute, multi-user virtual reality experience brings visitors up close with five of the Prado’s most celebrated works of art.

Masterpieces: A Virtual Experience of the Museo del Prado, created by ACCIONA Cultura in exclusive collaboration with the Museo Nacional del Prado, makes its US debut this fall at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn, New York.

The 30-minute, multi-user virtual reality experience brings visitors up close with five of the Prado’s most celebrated works of art. Combining original storytelling, music, richly designed 3D environments, and rigorous curatorship, Masterpieces offers a new way to discover and understand works by Velázquez, Goya, Bosch, Veronese, Rubens and Brueghel.

Guided by the voice of a fictional security guard on his final night shift before retirement, visitors journey through an imaginary museum and step beyond the canvas of five of the Prado’s most celebrated masterpieces: The Sense of Sight by Peter Paul Rubens and Jan Brueghel, Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez, Venus and Adonis by Paolo Veronese, Witches’ Sabbath by Francisco de Goya and The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch.

Visitors move through interpretations of each work as the paintings expand beyond their frames into three-dimensional environments, exploring together through free-roam, multi-user VR.

Several of the works rarely travel, while others cannot leave the Prado, meaning the originals can only be experienced in Madrid. Masterpieces offers audiences a new way to engage with their stories, symbolism and detail, taking visitors inside the worlds of the paintings through an original immersive narrative. The experience was realized under the academic curatorship of Alejandro Vergara, Head of Conservation of Flemish Painting and Northern Schools at the Prado Museum, and draws on original material from the museum to ensure fidelity to the works and their historical context.

AN INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Masterpieces arrives in the United States following editions in Madrid, Buenos Aires, Tokyo and Shanghai, bringing the Prado’s collection to new audiences around the world.

The US debut marks the next step in the international development of the experience and reflects ACCIONA Cultura’s expertise in creating original immersive formats that combine culture, storytelling and technology.

Masterpieces: A Virtual Experience of the Museo del Prado will be presented at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn from October 1 to December 20, 2026.
