- The National Museum of Oman is the first museum adapted to the needs of the visually impaired in the Middle East.
The National Museum of Oman, whose exhibition fit-out works have been carried out by ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño, will open its doors to the public from 30 July 2016. The exhibition covers around 4,000 square meters distributed in 14 permanent gallery spaces with more than 250 displays containing almost 6,000 artefacts arranged thematically and chronologically. This collection is contextualized by interactive and audiovisual elements that give a playful and educational feel to the visit to the Museum. It also has a temporary exhibition area and an educational room for children.
The National Museum of Oman is the first museum in the Middle East to adopt open-plan storage concept. It is also the first museum in Oman to have dedicated state-of-the-art conservation facilities and dedicated Learning Centre.
Among the most striking elements on display are the replicas of historic life-size Omani ships, several models of urban planning projects and emblematic buildings, and didactic/interactive audiovisuals that provide an overview of the rich architectural heritage of Oman.
The visit ends with the projection of an audiovisual which ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño has filmed in 4K ultra-high definition (UHDTV). It is projected onto an 8.3-megapixel screen located in a theatre inside the museum.
Within the “Social Innovation” concept that ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño incorporates into all its projects, the National Museum of Oman has been adapted so that persons with special needs can also enjoy the heritage on display. It is the first museum in the Middle East to be adapted to the needs of the visually impaired and the first one in Oman to provide access for persons with reduced mobility.
