ACCIONA Energía has signed bilateral agreements totaling 800GWh of renewable energy to support the decarbonization of multiple energy-intensive industrial clients in Italy, including steel producer Acciaierie Venete.

The contracts have been signed under Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism, managed by the Italian public entity Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) and designed to accelerate the deployment of new renewable capacity by linking industrial electricity demand with the development of new generation assets.

Under this mechanism, energy-intensive industries will purchase renewable energy for three years at a fixed price of €65/MWh through the GSE. In return, ACCIONA Energía will develop new renewable projects in Italy, which will also receive a fixed tariff, linking the fixed-price energy supplied with new generation over a 20-year period.

This framework enhances revenue visibility for developers, strengthens competitiveness for energy-intensive industries by providing them access to clean energy at stable prices, and contributes to the development of new renewable energy capacity in Italy.

ACCIONA Energía operates 156MW across four wind farms in Italy – Cocullo (Abruzzo), Isola and Sant’Anna (Calabria), and Caccamo (Sicily). In addition, it is set to build two new photovoltaic plants in Sicily – Panbianco (100.8MWp) and Benante (50.2MWp), after being awarded 151MW of solar capacity in the latest FERX public renewable energy auction.

ACCIONA has maintained a strong presence in Italy for more than 25 years, mainly through its water and construction businesses, with landmark projects such as several sections of the Apulia sanitation system, the Fuente Presidiana drinking water treatment plant and the breakwater at the Port of Ravenna.
