  • Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the award of the contract worth €2.6 billion to extend the city’s metro network to the Expo 2020 fairgrounds, to a consortium comprised of ACCIONA, the French company Alstom and the Turkish company Gülermak.

The winning bid was announced by the RTA at a press conference in Dubai attended by José Manuel Entrecanales, chairman of ACCIONA.

Work on the project is expected to begin at the end of this year and the new line will be ready in late 2019. The current metro network will be extended by 15 km, of which 11.8 km will be viaduct and 3.2 km will be underground. The new line consists of seven stations, including an interchange with the existing red line.

The consortium was selected in an international tender process involving 10 consortiums from around the world, of which five submitted bids.
