• The project will shift 19,000 vehicles off Greensborough Road per day and includes the planting of 4,000 trees.

ACCIONA has been selected by the Victorian government to design and build Australia's M80 Ring Road Completion between Plenty Road and the North East Link in Watsonia, Melbourne.

ACCIONA and partners will deliver the $3.8 billion M80 Ring Road with new lanes and smart technology. Together with the North East Link tunnels, the work will shift 19,000 vehicles off Greensborough per day.

The works -carried out in consortium by ACCIONA, MACA and AECOM include the construction of 14 kilometres of new lanes, retaining walls and urban design and landscaping works, as well as improved walking and cycling connections, and will involve the movement of almost two million cubic metres of earth, plus the planting of 4,000 trees.

ACCIONA established itself in Australia in 2002 and has become one of the continent's leading infrastructure companies. On June 30th, 2023, Australia and New Zealand was the largest geographic area for ACCIONA's Infrastructure business, accounting for 23% of the total portfolio.

ACCIONA was recently selected (also by the Victorian Government) to carry out the first batch of tunnels for the Suburban Rail Loop East project in Melbourne, as part of the Suburban Connect consortium, together with CPB Contractors and Ghella. The contract value is AU$3.6 billion (€2.2 billion).

The work involves the construction of 16 of the project's 26 kilometres of twin tunnels, including the construction of the tunnels between the Cheltenham and Glen Waverley neighborhoods and various works in the Southern Stabling Yard, the first critical step in the transformation of the city's public transport network. Tunnelling work is expected to begin in 2026. The Suburban Rail Loop project will transform Melbourne's public transport network, reshaping the city's growth and reducing the number of vehicles on the road.

ACCIONA was also awarded the contract for the design and construction of the Western Harbour Tunnel, worth some AU$4.24 billion (€2.746 billion), the largest construction contract in ACCIONA's history; and more recently  awarded the AU$1.4 billion (€850 million) contract to build the eastern section of the HumeLink power transmission line in New South Wales. .

Other major contracts in the country include the City Loop Upgrade in Melbourne (Victoria), the Australian city's rail transport system in its central business district; the construction of the runway for the new Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy Bird Walton); the central section of Sydney Metro West, the new underground railway that runs through much of the country's largest city; the removal of level crossings on the Frankston railway line in Melbourne; and before that, such landmark projects as a 41-kilometre bypass for the Toowoomba motorway and the Adelaide desalination plant.
