The Paraíba Water and Sewerage Company has awarded ACCIONA the contract for water and sewerage services in 85 municipalities in the Paraíba region, in northeastern Brazil.
The contract, structured as a public-private partnership, provides for these services through 2039 for an estimated population of 1.7 million people, with an investment of €724 million.
ACCIONA will operate and maintain the sanitary sewer system in the Abragencia area, covering the 37 municipalities of the Alto Piranhas microregion and the 48 municipalities of the coastal microregion. The initiatives in Paraíba are part of Brazil’s National Basic Sanitation Plan, which aims to achieve universal access to sanitation services throughout the country.
This contract adds to the two already signed with Sanepar to provide services in the Paraná region and with Cesan in Espírito Santo, as well as to the recently signed integrated water cycle contract with the government of Pernambuco.
STRATEGIC MARKET
ACCIONA has been operating in Brazil for nearly 30 years, developing major infrastructure projects in several states across the country.
In addition to Line 6 of the São Paulo subway—one of the largest infrastructure projects in Latin America, with a committed investment of over R$19 billion (€1.97 billion)—the company has developed other key projects, such as Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro and the transformation of the historic Júlio Prestes Station in São Paulo into a world-class concert venue.
Recently, the São Paulo City Council awarded ACCIONA the contract to build the road section between Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho and Rodovia dos Imigrantes, one of the country’s main logistics arteries and a key link between the city and the São Paulo coast.
