ACCIONA and Sacyr Agua formed an alliance to promote the Water Positive initiative, aimed at advancing water conservation by actively contributing to sustainable management and the restoration of water resources. The initiative encourages proactive resource management, helping companies achieve a positive water footprint—producing more water than they consume.

The proposal focuses on using non-conventional water sources, such as desalination and reuse, which are essential for reducing the water footprint. A company is considered Water Positive when it generates more “new water” than it consumes, both directly and indirectly, resulting in a positive water footprint.

Under this agreement, both companies will collaborate on diagnosing solutions to reduce water consumption in industries and increase their efficiency, as well as on strategies to boost reuse flows or improve water quality. They will also develop strategies to supply new water sources, introduce certified water footprint measurement techniques, and create digital compensation tools, among others.

With their combined expertise, ACCIONA and Sacyr Agua will provide a comprehensive service across the entire value chain, promoting the Water Positive model within the international industrial market.
