ACCIONA, together with Dragados, has reached a new milestone in the A-5 undergrounding project in Madrid by connecting the excavated sections of the south tunnel, in a development that will transform one of the capital’s main access routes. To mark this progress, Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida visited the site today alongside institutional representatives and project leaders.
The project includes the undergrounding of approximately 1.5 kilometers of the A-5 between Batán and the area around the Casa de Campo amusement park, with the aim of improving mobility, reducing the impact of surface traffic, and reclaiming urban space.
Excavation of the south tunnel has now reached 1.3 kilometers, representing 87% of its total length, while excavation of the north tunnel remains underway, with 0.73 kilometers completed to date. The project also includes pile installation and construction of the tunnel roof slab, which has already been completed, marking further progress on this major urban infrastructure.
