  • The operation marks the first step in installing the 18 caissons that will form a new protective barrier approximately 900 meters long off the Italian coast

ACCIONA, as part of a consortium with RCM Costruzioni, has installed the first of 18 caissons that will form the new breakwater off Ravenna, Italy. This milestone marks the beginning of a new phase of the marine infrastructure project.

The caissons are being manufactured at the Port of Ravenna using Kugira II, ACCIONA’s floating caisson construction vessel, which is being used for the first time on this project. Once completed, the caissons are transported to their final offshore location. The company has already completed 10 of the 18 planned caissons.

The new breakwater will be approximately 900 meters long and provide protection against wave action, helping to ensure operational continuity.

The installation of the first caisson represents further progress on the project. Work will continue with the installation of the remaining caissons and the construction of the additional elements needed to complete the breakwater.

KUGIRA II

The project marks the first use of Kugira II, one of ACCIONA’s specialized vessels for constructing large-scale port structures. Its capabilities allow large structures to be built directly in a marine environment, reducing material consumption and facilitating construction activities in Ravenna.

The deployment of Kugira II on this project expands ACCIONA’s operational capabilities in marine infrastructure and reinforces the use of its own specialized equipment to deliver large-scale construction projects.
