  • The tunnel boring machine has reached the future Madrid Río station after excavating 1,114 meters of tunnel

ACCIONA, in a joint venture with Dragados and Rover, has completed the excavation of the section between Comillas and Madrid Río stations on the extension of Madrid Metro Line 11. The tunnel boring machine reached the future Madrid Río station today after excavating 1,114 meters of tunnel in 75 days.

To mark this milestone, Jorge Rodrigo, Regional Minister for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, visited the site, accompanied by representatives of the regional government and the joint venture responsible for the works. ACCIONA was represented by José Díaz-Caneja, CEO of ACCIONA’s Infrastructures division.

The completion of this section marks a new milestone in the construction of one of the main public transportation infrastructure projects currently under way in the Community of Madrid. Work began on March 26 and was completed at an average rate of 15 meters per day.

During excavation, the tunnel boring machine passed through the area around the Manzanares River and the M-30 ring road, successfully completing a key stage of the works.

The extension of Line 11 will strengthen connectivity between different districts of the capital and support the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable mobility model.
