  • The project includes a 1.5-kilometer tunnel on the approach to Madrid between Batán and Avenida de Portugal

ACCIONA and its partner, Dragados, have completed the civil works for Lot 2 of the A-5 highway undergrounding project, designed to reduce the impact of traffic on the Casa de Campo and Madrid Río areas.

The milestone was marked at an event attended by government officials, ACCIONA representatives and representatives of the other parties involved.

The project involves the undergrounding of approximately 1.5 kilometers of the A-5 highway between Batán and the area surrounding the Casa de Campo Amusement Park. A new tunnel has been built with three lanes in each direction, one of which is reserved for buses and high-occupancy vehicles (HOVs).

The A-5 undergrounding project will also create new public space above ground, promoting pedestrian and bicycle mobility. The project forms part of the Paseo Verde del Suroeste (Southwest Green Promenade), an urban transformation initiative aimed at improving connectivity between the Latina and Moncloa-Aravaca districts and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
