Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation has awarded ACCIONA the design and construction of the reverse osmosis desalination plant in Doha. The plant will have a capacity of 500 million litres per day and will supply drinking water to two million people.
Designed to produce 500 million litres per day using reverse osmosis technology, the facility is designed to meet the growing water demands of Doha, an urban area characterised by its arid environment and high dependence on desalination. The project includes the engineering, assembly and commissioning of the plant in collaboration with Samsung, and is part of an ambitious water and energy plan promoted by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation.
This infrastructure reinforces ACCIONA’s track record in Qatar, joining flagship projects such as Ras Abu Fontas 3 and Umm Al Houl and consolidating the company as a leader in reverse osmosis desalination technology in the Middle East, guaranteeing efficient, sustainable and reliable water supplies. ACCIONA will manage the operation and maintenance of the project for 15 years to provide sustainable, local, high-quality water at a reasonable cost.
