The South Coast Water District has awarded ACCIONA and J.R. Filanc Construction the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Doheny desalination plant. Located at Dana Point, the plant will have a flow rate of 20,000 m³/day and will supply drinking water to homes and businesses in South Orange County.
The desalination plant will have up to five inclined wells completely submerged under the seabed to avoid impacts on marine life, and a 1.6-kilometre raw water pipeline to transport the water to the facility. It will use reverse osmosis technology to treat 20,000 m³/day, ensuring sustainable water supplies.
Designed to withstand earthquakes and other natural disasters, the plant will provide a secure and continuous local supply, even in emergencies. This approach ensures an infrastructure adapted to the region's water and climate challenges. ACCIONA will manage the operation and maintenance of the project for 15 years to provide sustainable, local, high-quality water at a reasonable cost.
