ACCIONA and SUEZ’ Prospect Pre-Treatment Plant is a transformative project, underpinning Greater Sydney’s water security for generations to come through innovation, sustainability, and robust infrastructure.

ACCIONA, in partnership with SUEZ, has been contracted to design and construct the Prospect Pre-Treatment Plant for Sydney Water. This major infrastructure project is a critical upgrade to Sydney's water supply system, ensuring the city’s resilience and reliability in delivering safe drinking water, especially during extreme weather events such as storms, droughts, and bushfires.

  • Capacity: 500 million litres per day (MLD)
  • Population Served: Supports the Prospect Water Filtration Plant, which supplies nearly 85% of Greater Sydney’s households—approximately 4.3 million people

KEY ASPECTS

  • Incorporates cutting-edge water clarification systems, intake screening, chemical storage and dosing, and a residual handling system for waste management.
  • Serves as a critical upstream process for the existing Prospect Water Filtration Plant, enhancing its ability to treat water from Warragamba Dam, Upper Nepean Dam, and Prospect Reservoir.
  • Designed to improve energy efficiency and increase the recovery of treated water for human consumption.
  • Specifically addresses the challenges posed by frequent poor raw water quality events caused by severe weather events, ensuring uninterrupted supply even during adverse conditions.
