The I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge Replacement Project is a major transportation investment that will replace the existing 1950s-era bridge connecting Lake Charles and Westlake in Southwest Louisiana. As a critical link for regional commuters, freight, and national supply chains, the new crossing will increase capacity, improve safety, reduce congestion, and strengthen the reliability of one of the Gulf South's most important interstate corridors.

ACCIONA, as part of Calcasieu Bridge Partners, is delivering the project through a 50-year public-private partnership that includes the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the new bridge and associated infrastructure. The project includes the replacement of the existing crossing, reconstruction and widening of approximately nine kilometers of I-10, roadway and interchange improvements, and implementation of an all-electronic free-flow tolling system.

Construction requires the integration of a new high-capacity bridge and roadway infrastructure with an existing interstate corridor. The project includes three travel lanes in each direction, auxiliary lanes, full shoulders, improved approaches, service roads, ramps, and an elevated overpass at Sampson Street that will eliminate delays caused by trains crossing the roadway. The existing bridge will be removed once traffic has been transferred to the new crossing.

Once complete, the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge will provide a safer, more resilient interstate crossing that improves travel times, freight movement, and regional connectivity along one of the Gulf South's most important transportation corridors. Designed for long-term performance, the project combines durable infrastructure, environmentally responsible construction practices, and a 50-year public-private partnership to support continued economic growth and reliable transportation throughout Southwest Louisiana.

INNOVATION & SUSTAINABILITY

The project incorporates modern bridge and roadway design to improve capacity, safety, durability, and long-term resilience along one of Louisiana's most heavily traveled transportation corridors. All-electronic free-flow tolling will allow traffic to move without stopping at toll facilities, while improved grades, shoulders, roadway connections, and interchange infrastructure will enhance overall corridor performance.

Environmental considerations are incorporated into the design and construction approach to minimize impacts on the Lake Charles area. The project also combines public and private financing within a long-term P3 structure, aligning the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the asset over its 50-year concession and supporting long-term performance and resilience.
