- The company was selected by the Qatari Ali Bin Ali Group to design and carry out the international presentation of the “Katara Plaza” project, a shopping, cultural and leisure complex located in the Cultural Village of Doha.
- The show, which took place this Sunday and Monday, combined the technique of mapping and state-of-the-art immersive projections.
- Katara Plaza, which will open its 38,000 square meters in 2016, has a potential footfall of more than ten million people a year.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño was selected by the Ali Bin Ali Group, one of the most consolidated holding companies in Qatar, to carry out the presentation before the Press, international investors and well-known figures from the world of fashion and the Katara Plaza shopping, cultural and leisure complex. Through this event, ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño staged an audiovisual show for the first time in the Arabian Gulf, an area in which it already has a strong presence in the design and construction of museum projects, including the design of the National Museum of Oman, a series of exhibitions in the Islamic Art Museum of Doha and the Orientalist Museum of Qatar.
The presentation of Katara Plaza, held this Sunday, highlighted the identity of the new center, based on concepts of elegance and glamour and the most characteristic elements of the singular architecture of the Victorian style. These will be the center’s major features when it opens to the public in 2016. ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño’s intervention has been one of “cultural engineering”, using state-of-the-art technological resources such as mapping and immersive projections to highlight the message.
The company created two adjacent – but differentiated – spaces for the event in Katara. The first, a curved surround projection using the technique of mapping, shows the singular architectural features of Katara Plaza. The mapping takes place in a semicircular area consisting of two giant curved screens – each one 14 meters long and 7 meters high – and four projectors with a combined power of 80,000 lux.
The guests then moved to an adjacent area set up as a large immersive audiovisual room, with a 750 m2 screen (104 meters long by 7 meters high) and twelve projectors of 20,000 lux each, plus 7.1 surround sound, where images of the future galleries, spaces and facilities of Katara Plaza were projected.
Like all the events created by ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño, this one was ‘carbon neutral’, i.e. CO2 emissions created by it are calculated and then offset in a clean energy project. This means that the final balance of emissions is zero.
Katara Plaza, which will open its 38,000 square meters to the public in September 2016, will be located in Katara, the Cultural Village of Doha, and has a potential footfall of more than 10 million visitors a year. It is also a pioneering facility in the climatization of open air zones.
