ACCIONA has deployed a fleet of 200 shared scooters in Gandía, which will be available for use around the clock from today. It is the first scooter sharing service not only in Gandía but also in the La Safor district, one of Valencia's principal tourist areas.
The service will contribute to reducing the impact on urban mobility caused by the huge influx of tourists. The ACCIONA shared electric scooters will avoid the emission of polluting gases, reduce noise and contribute to reducing traffic congestion, since each shared vehicle eliminates an average of 10 trips using private vehicles.
The implementation of this first ecological mobility system underpins Gandía's focus on a model of sustainable tourism, as was noted by the Mayor, Diana Morant, who unveiled the new service in the company of Orazio Corva, Head of Sales and Marketing for ACCIONA's scooter sharing service. Corva highlighted ACCIONA's commitment to the transition to a decarbonised economy based on renewable energies and non-polluting infrastructure and services models.
ACCIONA already has a fleet of over 3,000 shared scooters in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Lisbon. These vehicles have avoided the emission of 191 tons of CO2 so far this year, equivalent to the emissions produced by 20,000 cars in a day.
The scooters have the equivalent power of a 125 cc engine and offer two ride modes (using the MODE selector): Standard ('S'), with speeds of up to 50 km/h, for use in the city; and Custom ('C'), which can reach speeds up to 80 km/h, for use anywhere in the city, including freeways. The scooters are all two-seaters and carry two jet-style helmets in the trunk.
Users can retain a scooter in 'pause' for up to six hours before resuming use.
Trips must begin and end in the urban area of Gandía, excluding the downtown pedestrian areas, or the beaches, including notably Daimús beach and the Guardamar de la Safor area. Users can also ride a scooter to a nearby town, park it in in reserve mode for up to six hours and then resume their trip, returning the scooter to the service territory in Gandía.
How the service works
To use the service, users must register using the ACCIONA Movilidad app or on the website www.acciona-motosharing.com/es/. Once their particulars have been validated, new users get 30 free minutes so they can start using the service immediately.
Rates range from €0.27/minute to €0.30/minute, depending on the drive mode; there are no fixed costs and this rate covers all charges: insurance, charging and maintenance.
The maintenance fleet, which is 100% electric, swaps in fully recharged batteries during the night.
There is a 24/7 Customer Care Service and a freephone for dealing with queries and incidents.
