- ACCIONA Microenergia Mexico and the Spanish and Mexican Agencies for International Development Cooperation (so called AECID and AMEXCID respectively) met the Energy Development Institute of Chiapas (so called IDE) to join forces in the deployment of a rural electrification programme for this Mexican state.
This meeting, which was held in order to search options for the deployment of the ‘Luz en Casa Chiapas 2016’ programme (so called LCCh16), was developed in the IDE’s headquarters in Chiapas. The attendees were: Julio Eisman and Enrique Toledo, Vice-president and Manager, ACCIONA Microenergia Mexico; Jose Navarro, Head of programmes, Spanish Cooperation’s Technical Bureau in Mexico; Suylan Wong, Head of Department for Germany and Spain, AMEXCID; Jorge Arana, Technical Secretary, Spain-Mexico Joint Fund for Technical and Scientific Cooperation, and; Luis Enrique Aguilar and Juan Carlos Vidal, Director General and Technological Research and Innovation Director, IDE.
During this event, it was highlighted that the ‘Luz en Casa Oaxaca’ programme, which has been developed under a Public-Private Partnership for Development, is a successful and good practice case in Social Development that may be replicated in the State of Chiapas. Thus, an agreement was achieved to start, jointly, projects to facilitate access to basic electricity services, in the period 2016-2018, to around 9,000 Chiapas households.
These actions will contribute to mitigate the poverty, with the premise that electricity is a determinant of the development: without access to electrical energy is no possible to consolidate advances on health, education or economic development. Then, overcoming the social backwardness is promoted in the poorest areas of Chiapas, looking for the benefit of disadvantaged families.
ACCIONA Microenergia and the Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are included in the 2030 Agenda, a 15-year plan of action that favours the people, the planet and the prosperity. There are 17 SDG which are integrated and indivisible and that comprise the three dimensions of the Development: economic, social and environmental.
The rural electrification programmes of the ACCIONA Microenergia foundation impact on those three dimensions, and directly on the SDG 7, Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Those programmes also impact on the SDG17, Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development: their multi-stakeholder management models combine compromises from the public, private and civil initiatives, nationally and internationally, that add the technical, managerial and economic resources which are necessary to develop initiatives that have the aim of favouring the development of very backward communities.
ACCIONA Microenergia Mexico
It is a non-profit association that was created by the ACCIONA Microenergia foundation to facilitate access to electricity to isolated rural communities, which are not included in the national grid extension of Mexico. ACCIONA Microenergia Mexico deploys the 'Luz en Casa Oaxaca' programme under a public-private partnership with the Government of the State of Oaxaca and the Spanish and Mexican Agencies for International Development Cooperation.
