This will be the second year in which ACCIONA sponsors this international event which seeks to raise awareness with regard to the great potential of renewable energies and, in particular, thermosolar energy.

This event is held just a few kilometres away from the Solar One power plant, one of the largest solar energy plants in Africa whose execution was entrusted to ACCIONA by the environmental state agency of the Kingdom of Morocco (MASEN).

Last year, ACCIONA presented the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered vehicle at this same event, shortly afterwards becoming the first 100% electric car to compete in the Dakar Rally, the most extreme trial in the world of motor racing. Recently, the EcoPowered was once more the focal point in Morocco, having participated in the International OiLibya Rally, for being the first zero-emissions car to successfully complete an FIA World Rally Championship race.

This time, ACCIONA will be present with a haima in the solar villa and will be represented by the Acciona Energía and Acciona Infraestructuras managers responsible for the construction of the “Solar One” power plant.

Morocco is a key country in the international development strategy of ACCIONA, also having developed other important sustainable civil works such as the Oum Azza Drinking Water Treatment Plant.

The Solar Festival is an initiative by Patrick Bauer, founder of the “Marathon des Sables”, and Mehdi Rouizen.
