- The contract is worth 26 million euros
ACCIONA Agua has commenced extensive sewerage works in the bay and metropolitan areas of Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay. The turnkey contract, awarded by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), includes the construction of three pumping stations and two water pretreatment plants, and operation and maintenance of the facilities for one year.
The project is worth 32.4 million dollars (about 26.2 million euros) and is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The project will benefit about 250,000 people in Paraguay's capital city directly, and will be indirectly beneficial to all the city's residents by enhancing the natural environment of Asunción bay and shoreline by resolving the problem of pollution from waste water discharges.
Specifically, the works consist of refurbishing and expanding the sewer networks and building water pretreatment plants in Varadero and Bella Vista boroughs, that cover about 52 kilometres, plus construction of the Florencio Villamayor sewer mains and its feeder networks.
ACCIONA has extensive experience in sanitation projects around the world, including the design, construction and maintenance of complex facilities.
The company has been present in Paraguay since 2015, when it was awarded the contract to install information systems to control the production and distribution of drinking water in Asunción and its metropolitan area.
Recently, the company was awarded contracts to upgrade the Cañaveralejo waste water treatment plant in Cali, in Valle del Cauca department (Colombia); build the Rivas and El Rama drinking water treatment plants (Nicaragua); and build the Loja waste water treatment plant (Ecuador).
