• The '2018 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations' assessed about 6,000 companies from 22 countries around the world according to 17 sustainability criteria..

ACCIONA entered the '2018 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations'  league table, presented by Corporate Knights at the Davos World Economic Forum. The company was chosen after competing against almost 6,000 companies from 22 countries. The selection methodology is based on 17 sustainability factors (environmental, social and governance-related). ACCIONA and Amadeus are the only two Spanish companies in the index.

For the first time, key indicators for the companies in each industry were factored into the ranking. For ACCIONA, within the utilities sector, an important factor was the fact that it has been carbon neutral since 2016, having voluntarily offset all its emissions by acquiring Certified Emission Reductions from wind projects in Mexico under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Another change in the ranking  was that this year it assessed companies' contribution to the 'Green Economy' as defined by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In 2016, 42% of ACCIONA's global sales and 72% of its EBITDA came from businesses related to renewable energy, water and other environmental activities, all classified as part of the Green Economy.

Inclusion in the '2018 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations' represents additional recognition for ACCIONA's sustainable approach as it is also a member of other sustainability indexes such as FTSE4Good, MSCI Global Climate Index, CDP Climate A List 2017 and CDP Water A List 2017, among others.

Presence in Davos

This year, José Manuel Entrecanales, ACCIONA's Chairman, will participate in a work session at Davos organized by the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, a group of 70 CEOs from around the world committed to climate action.

ACCIONA is an outstanding example of the private sector's role in the transition to a low carbon economy, due to its story of transformation as a company and to its business model. The company is a leader in combating climate change from the business side due to its prominent position in sustainable infrastructure and clean energy.

ACCIONA's Chairman will be accompanied by Luis Castilla, CEO of Acciona Infrastructure, and Rafael Mateo, CEO of Acciona Energy.
