CANFRANC INTERNATIONAL RAILWAY STATION
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2002, the Canfranc International Railway Station is a symbol of Spain and France’s railway history thanks to the international line that connected the two countries in the 20th century. It was inaugurated by Alfonso XIII in 1928 and remained in service until 1970.
The project was promoted by the Ministry of Land and Housing of Aragón and executed by the ACCIONA-Avintia joint venture. It included the construction of a new passenger building with over 950 m2 of usable area, the creation of a new 1.6-kilometer-long track bed, and the complete restoration of the old 1928 Canfranc railway station building into a five-star luxury hotel. The project also included urban development of the area. The project is part of the Government of Aragon’s plan to reopen the railway line to international traffic.
