• The company ranks first in Top 100 Green Utilities published by Energy Intelligence, combining an evaluation of the CO2 intensity of a utility's electricity production and the percentage of renewables in its energy mix

ACCIONA leads this year's ranking Top 100 Green Utilities published by Energy Intelligence. The ranking combines an evaluation of the CO2 intensity of a utility's electricity production and the percentage of renewables in its energy mix. This is the first time that a pure player in renewable energy tops the global rankings.

ACCIONA obtained 234 points out of a total of 300: 100 points in the ranking for CO2 emissions per MWh, 96 points for the percentage of renewables in its overall capacity, and 38 points in the ranking of total installed renewable energy capacity.

To compile its ranking, Energy Intelligence selected the world-s top 100 utilities, whose size range from 150GW China Huaneng) to a little under 6GW (Dong Energy). In total, all the utilities in the sample have a combined 3,100GW of installed capacity, or about 55% of the world's total power generation (based on 2012 data of the IEA).

This is the first time that ACCIONA is included in Top 100 Green Utilities. Companies that follow ACCIONA are China General Nuclear (CGN), Iberdrola, NexTera Energy, Energias de Portugal (EdP), Enel, China Guodian, China Three Gorges, EDF y Dong Energy.

Other key highlights include:

  • Renewable energy technologies accounted for almost 80% of new capacity added in 2014 by companies in the ranking.
  • Europe continues to play a leading role in green power, with six European companies in this year’s top 10.
