- 1,200 scooters will be put into circulation in the coming weeks
- Users will be able to see how much CO2 they avoid emitting by using the service
- ACCIONA has already rolled out the service in Madrid, Valencia, Seville and Lisbon
ACCIONA today launched its electric scooter sharing service in Barcelona, following its success in several Spanish cities and in Lisbon in the last few months. A fleet of 1,200 electric scooters, billed per second of usage, will be deployed starting today in downtown areas of Barcelona, such as Sagrada Familia, Gracia, Eixample, Barrio Gótico, etc. (See map of the area).
The launch is part of the company's sustainable electric shared mobility strategy. In line with ACCIONA's commitment to decarbonisation, its scooter sharing service uses the ACCIONA Movilidad app to provide information about the CO2 emissions that are avoided by using a shared scooter instead of a conventional private vehicle.
The scooters have the equivalent performance of a 125 cc engine and, as a novelty, offer two ride modes: Standard ('S'), with speeds of up to 50 km/h, for use in the city; and Custom ('C'), which can reach speeds up to 80 km/h, for highway use. The scooters are all two-seaters and carry two helmets in their trunk.
ACCIONA's scooter fleet is powered by rechargeable batteries and users pay per second of actual use, which optimises the economic advantages of using a shared vehicle.
ACCIONA already has a fleet of around 3,000 scooters distributed in Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Lisbon, and now Barcelona.
How the service works
The service will be available for 20 hours per day, from 06:00 am to 02:00 am. Users must first register through the ACCIONA Movilidad app or on the website https://www.acciona-motosharing.com/es/barcelona; once registration has been validated, new users get 30 free minutes. The app shows the scooters' exact location, and users pay per second of actual use. The scooters are allowed to travel all over the city, but have to be parked in the designated areas shown on the map in the app.
There is a 24/7 Customer Care Service and a freephone for dealing with queries and incidents.
The competitive advantage over other shared mobility services is that, with ACCIONA's scooters, users can ride all over the city thanks to the Custom (80 km/h) mode and 'pause' their trip at a very low price, which allows scooters to be reserved for up to 6 hours.
Why ACCIONA?
ACCIONA's incursion into the vehicle sharing business is in line with the company's mission to support sustainable solutions linked to infrastructure, specifically transport. ACCIONA crystallises the company's position in new services that enhance sustainable mobility.
As added value for users committed to responsible consumption, the service app reports on the CO2 emissions they avoid by using a 100%-renewable electric scooter instead of a conventional private vehicle.
Vehicle sharing services are aligned with ACCIONA's identity and its wish to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, improving quality of life in cities, electrifying the economy and promoting alternative means of transport. For this reason, ACCIONA is moving into this market under its own brand in order to deal directly with end users of transport services.
