- An EEC is a document that officially certifies the energy savings derived from an action to improve energy efficiency
ACCIONA Energía has been accredited to manage, buy and sell Energy Efficiency Certificates (EEC) by the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
An EEC is a document that officially certifies the energy savings derived from an action to improve energy efficiency (changes in lighting, thermal insulation, air conditioning, equipment renovation, etc). Each EEC recognizes energy savings equivalent to 1kWh.
Energy companies of all kinds are obliged to contribute to the energy saving objectives set by the government. Until now, that was done through contributions to the National Energy Efficiency Fund. With the implementation of the EEC system last year, companies can cover a percentage of their contribution to energy savings (up to 65% in 2024) through these certificates.
This new mechanism of EEC makes energy saving obligations more flexible, and it generates economic incentives for customers linked to energy efficiency improvement activities.
ACCIONA Energía, as a supplier of renewable energy, is one of the companies obliged to contribute to energy savings and is therefore a potential buyer of EECs. In addition, as an officially accredited company, it can manage and sell EECs to third parties through its Energy Services area.
The company offers all-inclusive services that go from identifying the most appropriate energy saving measures, to implementing them and carrying out all the technical and documentary management for the EECs to be approved, consolidating its position as strategic partner for decarbonization and leader in sustainability.
