• In 2015, the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered was the first 100% electric vehicle to participate in the Dakar Rally and the first to finish a race in the world championship of rallies.
  • On January 2nd, ACCIONA will compete once again in the Dakar, the most challenging motor race. Although all the leading automotive brands will be present, only one energy company is capable of taking on this challenge with 100% zero emissions.
  • Since 2011, ACCIONA has demonstrated the viability of renewable energies in the most hostile environments: first in reaching the Geographic South Pole on a sled driven only by kites, later in 2012 with its participation in the Vendée Globe with the first zero-emissions racing sailboat, and this past October in successfully completing the International OiLibya Rally of Morocco with the ACCIONA.
  • The Dakar Rally will take place between the 2nd and 16th of January, crossing Argentina and Bolivia.

The Dakar Rally 2016 begins, and today the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered is present for the second time on the Tecnópolis podium (Buenos Aires) which will lead to the prologue phase of Rosario.

For another year ACCIONA, a multinational Spanish company of infrastructures, water, services, and renewable energies, has presented the first and only 100% EcoPowered vehicle to participate in the Dakar Rally and to have finished a race that counts towards the FIA calendar.

This challenge takes on a new dimension during a year in which sustainability has a special relevance thanks to the signing by the 195 countries present at the COP21 (Climate Change Conference) in Paris of a historic agreement to commit to the reduction of emissions and to fight against climate change.

The construction of the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered has been a continuous research and development project carried out by ACCIONA’s I+D+i department.

For this new challenge, improvements have been made from the previous version, having reduced the weight by 40% and incorporated more powerful 8-battery packs, in addition to a sequential gearshift and 4x4 traction.

At the wheel will be driver Ariel Jatón, who has collaborated from the start in the development and construction of the vehicle, and who has had a long career in the world of racing competitions, among those in the Dakar Rally. With him, Gastón Scazzuso who, to his role as navigator, adds his experience as an electronic engineer applied in the world of motor racing.
