ACCIONA has been awarded the contract to build the control tower for the new Chinchero-Cuzco International Airport, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at strengthening aerial connectivity and contributing to the development of the region in the heart of the Peruvian Andes. The contract is valued at US$48 million (€41 million).
The project is part of the investment plan of Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications, featuring technical assistance from the South Korean Project Management Office, an organization with which it maintains a collaborative agreement.
The contract includes the construction of the control tower complex, with a total built area of 4,102.70m². This encompasses the tower itself (seven levels reaching a height of 35.80m); the control center building (two levels); technical rooms; an antenna support mast; and various auxiliary structures such as ventilation, fire suppression, electrification, lighting, water supply, and sanitation systems, along with other annexed infrastructure.
This award underscores ACCIONA’s leading position in the development of high-complexity transport infrastructure in Peru.
KEY COUNTRY
ACCIONA possesses extensive experience in the Peruvian infrastructure market, where it has operated since 1998. It has developed prominent projects, particularly in roadworks, construction, and power transmission –a sector in which it is one of the major operators in Latin America– as well as water management.
Last year, in a consortium with Ferrovial and Sacyr, the company was awarded the construction and 30-year operation of the Lima Peripheral Ring Road, a 34.8-kilometer urban toll highway in the Lima metropolitan area which will be a critical upgrade for the city's connectivity.
Furthermore, the company previously undertook major construction projects, including the Daniel Alcides Carrión Hospital in Huancayo, in central Peru; the new control tower at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima; the Pachacutec wastewater treatment plant in the Ventanilla district of the Callao province; and the Chimbote bypass in the northern part of the country. ACCIONA also participated in the construction of a pumping system for the copper ore processing plant at the Antamina project in the Huari province.
In 2024, the company reached an agreement with Darby International Capital to acquire its high-voltage transmission line business in Peru, a transaction that positioned ACCIONA as one of the leading operators in the sector in Latin America. The agreement included the incorporation of engineering, procurement, construction, and operations and maintenance teams with proven experience in managing over 4,200 kilometers of transmission lines and 30 substations.
ACCIONA is currently developing ten concession transmission projects in Peru, involving the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of more than 1,150 kilometers of lines, 11 new substations, and 18 expansions of existing substations. It also performs operation and maintenance work on 240 kilometers of lines and 17 substations.
ACCIONA built and commissioned a new 225MW photovoltaic plant for the Peruvian power company Kallpa Generación in the La Joya district (Arequipa).
At the end of 2025, ACCIONA Energía completed the sale of the San Juan de Marcona wind farm (135.7MW) to Luz del Sur S.A.A., one of Peru's most prominent energy companies. The US$256 million (€218 million) transaction was part of the company's asset rotation strategy.
In addition, the acciona.org foundation began working in Peru in 2009 with the goal of providing access to modern forms of energy, safe water, and other basic infrastructure to low-income individuals in isolated and dispersed communities.
