The contract is for 5 million euros over four years and will come into effect on 1 August 2015.
ACCIONA Agua has been awarded the contract for the operation, conservation and maintenance of the Sanitation System of the Cuenca del Caudal area (Asturias, northern Spain), consisting of the Baiña Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and its fifty-four associated installations belonging to the Consorcio de Aguas (Water Board) of Asturias.It will come into effect on 1 August 2015 and will initially run for four years, with the possibility of up to six (ordinary) and one (extraordinary) annual extensions.
ACCIONA’s proposition represents revenues of 5million euros, which could reach 13 million euros if the extensions are applied. The system will service a population of 84,000 with an annual flow rate of 10 million cubic meters.
The sanitation system of the Baiña WWTP is the third biggest in the Principality of Asturias in terms of flow rate, and the biggest in kilometers of piping and associated installations.
The Baiña WWTP is designed to treat a maximum flow rate of 138,240 m3/day (primary treatment) and 60,480 m3/day (biological treatment), corresponding to a population equivalent of 86,500, the average daily projected flow rate being 23,786 m3/day. The WWTP is a comprehensive treatment system that includes a water line with biological treatment and elimination of nutrients, a sludge line and thermal drying. This system also has 40,409 meters of piping of different diameters, to make up the general interceptor sewers for the Caudal, Lena and Aller rivers, including fifteen pumping stations, thirty spillways and nine galleries.
In Asturias, ACCIONA Agua carried out the design, construction and operation of the Maqua WWTP until 2011, and more recently, the design and construction of the WWTP for the river Gafo in Caldas.
