  • ACCIONA, has been selected by the Government of Western Australian to build a new 27-kilometre electricity transmission line

ACCIONA, has been selected by the Government of Western Australian to build a new 27-kilometre electricity transmission line, including 6.7 kilometres of 132kV underground cable, 17 kilometres of overhead lines and various complementary works, such as substation and terminal upgrades.

The project, named Clean Energy Link – North, is valued at AU$342 million (€192 million) and will enable the supply of around 400MW of existing wind power and up to 1GW of new renewable energy, contributing to cleaner energy generation for the Western Australian community. The project is expected to create more than 400 jobs.

ACCIONA, in partnership with Genus, has already been selected by Transgrid, the public network operator in New South Wales, to build the eastern section of the HumeLink power transmission line. This AU$1.4 billion (€850 million) initiative, one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in the country, includes the design and construction of 227 kilometres of 500kV overhead transmission lines from Bannaby to Tumut, incorporating 467 towers, along with the upgrade of the 500kV substation at Bannaby.

ACCIONA has more than twenty years of experience in the design and construction of transmission networks and electrical substations, ranging from low-voltage facilities to lines and substations both in Spain and around the world, in countries such as Kenya, Mexico and Peru.

LOCAL LEADERSHIP

Established in Australia in 2002, ACCIONA has become one of the country's leading infrastructure companies.
In 2009, the company was awarded one of its most iconic projects, the Adelaide desalination plant. The plant has a capacity of 300,000 m³ per day and serves two million people. It was the first of its kind in the country, incorporating advanced pre-treatment systems to improve energy efficiency and enhance water recovery for human consumption.

In 2011, ACCIONA secured its first water project in Western Australia: the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Mundaring water treatment plant, which supplies water to Goldfields, one of the state's nine regions.

In 2024, ACCIONA was selected to design, build, operate and maintain the Alkimos desalination plant (ASDP) in Perth for ten years. The design and construction project is expected to supply drinking water by 2028, and forms part of a broader AU$2.8 billion (€1.724 billion) infrastructure programme to ensure drinking water for millions of Western Australians.

Beyond the water sector, ACCIONA is developing several large infrastructure projects in the country, such as the construction of tunnels for the Suburban Rail Loop East project in Melbourne. This AU$3.6 billion (€2.2 billion) contract will transform Melbourne's public transport network, accommodate urban growth, and reduce road congestion.

The company is also building the Western Harbour Tunnel, valued at around AU$4.24 billion (€2.746 billion), the largest construction contract in ACCIONA's history, which recently commenced tunnelling works.

Other major contracts in the country include the construction of the runway at the new Sydney Western International Airport (Nancy Bird Walton); the central section of Sydney Metro West, a new underground railway that runs through much of the country's largest city; and the removal of level crossings on the Frankston railway line in Melbourne.
