• ACCIONA is the only utility in the world to obtain the highest rating in the CDP Climate 2017 and CDP Water 2017 ratings, thanks to its work in pursuit of sustainable water management and against climate change
  • Only 27 companies gained this double recognition, out of more than 3,000 that were rated

ACCIONA is the only utility in the world to obtain the highest rating (A) granted by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) to companies that are outstanding because of how they approach both climate change and water use. ACCIONA is one of the 27 companies that obtained the double rating, out of more than 3,000 companies around the world that were assessed this year.

This is the seventh year in a row that ACCIONA has obtained the highest rating in the 'Performance against climate change' category, and is a member of the Climate 'A' list, in which only 112 international companies were recognised for their efforts to mitigate climate change.

With regard to water management, ACCIONA retained the 'A' rating obtained last year, a recognition achieved by only 73 companies worldwide.

CDP acknowledges ACCIONA's efforts to implement measures to fight climate change, as evidenced by the fact that 72% of ACCIONA's EBITDA and 42% of its global revenues in 2016 came from activities that fit within the Green Economy, as defined by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). CDP also lauded ACCIONA's commitment to achieve carbon neutrality, a decision that has positioned ACCIONA as the first construction and energy company in the world to reach 'zero emissions'.

Regarding water management, CDP took into account such factors as the 7% reduction in water consumption by ACCIONA's operations in 2016 and its positive water footprint of 510hm3.

CDP is an international non-profit environmental organisation which represents 827 institutional investors with assets worth 100 trillion dollars; it provides an evaluation tool for institutional investors and stakeholders to ascertain what companies are doing to drive environmental change.

Its inclusion in the CDP Climate 2017 and CDP Water 2017 indices ratifies the position of ACCIONA's offer vis-à-vis public- and private-sector clients, as well as other stakeholders; ACCIONA's focus on sustainability in its strategy is increasingly valued in public tenders at a domestic and international level, where it is increasingly rated as a positive factor or even a requirement.
