- To date, nearly 280 women have benefited from the 47 training courses delivered as part of the construction of São Paulo’s Line 6-Orange metro project
ACCIONA, a global company that develops sustainable infrastructure solutions, has delivered 60,940 hours of professional training and supported 277 women working on São Paulo’s Line 6-Orange metro project through its Women in Construction program, developed in partnership with SENAI.
These training initiatives enable professionals, including those with no prior experience, to develop technical skills, build specialized expertise and access internal mobility opportunities within the project, supporting their long-term career development.
ACCIONA’s 47 courses include technical and operational training programs that are essential to the project’s progress, such as signalperson/rigger, site supervisor, mason, rack-and-pinion hoist operator, overhead crane operator, welder and electrician, along with other initiatives designed for different areas of construction.
In addition to operational training, courses have also been offered in administrative and technical areas based on the needs of Line 6-Orange, including quality, human resources and engineering, expanding opportunities for participants’ professional development and career advancement.
These programs are part of ACCIONA’s strategy to promote diversity, support women’s empowerment and expand women’s access to technical roles in the construction sector. The training model also supports the ongoing development of these professionals and enables mobility between roles across different stages of construction, creating opportunities for women without prior experience to acquire new skills and remain with the project.
WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION
Despite the progress made in recent years, women’s participation in the construction sector remains limited, representing around 11.5% of the workforce, according to data from the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS), released by Brazil’s Ministry of Labor and Employment in late 2024.
In this context, by implementing structured technical training programs in one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects, ACCIONA is reinforcing its commitment to social development, expanding women’s access to specialized trades and helping build a more diverse and inclusive sector.
Investment in training also generates positive impacts in the communities where the company operates. Technical training enables the development of new skills and expands employment prospects for these professionals, creating opportunities that go beyond the scope of the project and strengthening their participation in future infrastructure projects, such as the construction of metro lines.
KEY MARKET
ACCIONA has been operating in Brazil for nearly 30 years, developing infrastructure projects in several states across the country.
In addition to São Paulo’s Line 6-Orange metro project, the largest infrastructure project currently underway in Latin America, the company also operates in the water and sanitation sector in the state of Paraná, in partnership with Sanepar, and in the state of Espírito Santo, together with CESAN. ACCIONA was recently awarded a sanitation contract package in the state of Pernambuco, as part of a consortium with BRK Ambiental, supporting progress toward universal access to these essential services.
ACCIONA has also developed several landmark infrastructure projects in the country, such as Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro and the transformation of the historic Júlio Prestes Station in São Paulo into a world-class concert venue.
