  • A total of 22 trains will run on the new branch line connecting the northern part of São Paulo with the city center

The first train of São Paulo’s future Metro Line 6, which is being built by ACCIONA, has arrived at Pátio Morro Grande, an area designated for depots. This train is part of a fleet of 22 trains, each with six carriages, that will run on the new branch line connecting the Brasilândia neighborhood in the north of the city with the São Joaquim station in the center.

Manufactured by Alstom in Taubaté, Brazil, each train will have a capacity of 2,044 passengers and serve approximately 633,000 users per day. Made of stainless steel, the trains can reach speeds of up to 90 km/h and are lighter than carbon steel models. This feature, combined with lower electricity consumption, demonstrates Concesionaria Linha Uni’s commitment to more sustainable operation.

These trains are also notable for their durability, with an estimated useful life of over 40 years. They have also been designed using Alstom’s Lab 4.0, a virtual reality laboratory with advanced technology that realistically simulates trains in a virtual environment. This makes it possible to anticipate and correct any technical adjustments.

UNIVERSITY LINE

Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro will have 15 new stations, connecting the Brasilândia neighborhood in the north with São Joaquim Station in the center of São Paulo. The current one-and-a-half-hour bus journey will be reduced to 23 minutes.

Dubbed the “University Line”, the new branch will connect seven universities along its route and provide access to 11 other higher education institutions.

According to a 2022 study by the São Paulo state government, over 40% of trips on Line 6 will begin or end at universities, and most passengers will be between 18 and 24 years old.

With a committed investment of more than €2.3 billion (R$19 billion), this project is a public-private partnership (PPP) between the São Paulo State Government and Concesionaria Linha Universidade (Linha Uni).

ACCIONA is carrying out the works, which will create around 10,000 jobs. A partial handover of the project is scheduled for late 2026, after which Linha Uni will operate the new metro line for 19 years.
