ACCIONA, a global leader in sustainable solutions, was the winner in the "Pro-Women Program (Diversity and Inclusion)" category at the 2nd Infra Women Brazil Award with its "Women in Construction" initiative for the works on São Paulo Metro's Line 6-Orange.
Based on the company's global inclusion policies and its sustainability objectives, the "Women in Construction" program reduces gender inequalities through the inclusion, training, and qualification of women on São Paulo Metro's Line 6-Orange, the largest infrastructure project in Latin America.
Implemented since 2020, the initiative exceeded the 12% target for female participation in the project – reaching over 900 female employees in administrative and operational roles across the 15 future stations, 15.3 kilometers of constructed tunnels, 18 ventilation and emergency exit shafts, in addition to the maintenance yard and operation and control center. Among the program's key milestones is the segment prefabrication plant, which operated with a 70% female workforce during its operation: over 100 women produced 6,800 rings with performance equivalent — and, at times, superior — to that of factories operated exclusively by men.
The program has accumulated 47,080 training hours up to November, benefiting 214 women with certified pathways in technical areas. It also includes breastfeeding support rooms, the Reinforcement Bar Benders' Center, internal mobility policies, and a recruitment model that preserves diversity.
Infra Women Brazil is a network that promotes female presence in Brazil's infrastructure ecosystem, by promoting events, technical content, mentoring, and recognition for impactful initiatives in leadership, innovation, and diversity and inclusion. Its awards give visibility to programs with measurable results and scalability potential, strengthening the D&I agenda throughout the entire infrastructure chain.
