ACCIONA, through its Polish subsidiary, Mostostal Warsawa, has discovered the remains of the northern section of medieval defensive wall that surrounded the city of Szczecin (Poland).
The discovery was made during the renovation and modernization of the Duchess of Pomerania Castle, a project awarded to the company in August 2022.
According to archaeologists, the large boulders discovered, arranged on an east-west axis, and the fragments of brick walls coincide with the layout of the medieval defensive wall that surrounded the city to the north, and were still standing at the beginning of the 19th century.
The restoration project of the castle consists mainly in the modernization of the terraces (south, east and north), the northern scarp and the tunnels under it, as well as the reconstruction of the northern wing of the building.
The Castle of the Dukes of Pomerania is one of the most important monuments in Szczecin. Its cultural institution organizes cultural and educational events and runs its own exhibition galleries, as well as the Zamek cinema, the Piwnica Krypta Theater and the Cultural and Tourist Information Center. Its main goal is to promote the culture and art of West Pomerania abroad and to issue publications on the history of the monument and the region.
