ACCIONA has celebrated the official groundbreaking for the Ontario Line, as construction officially begins on the project’s elevated guideway segment and new stations in Toronto’s east end — a major step forward in expanding rapid transit capacity and improving mobility for the area’s growing communities.

The Trillium Guideway Partners consortium, ACCIONA (60%) and Amico (40%), with design provided by WSP, is responsible for the design and construction of a three-kilometre elevated guideway segment connecting Don Valley, Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park, as well as five new elevated stations for the Ontario Line.

The scope of work includes civil works, foundations and structural construction of the elevated guideway and station construction.
The elevated structure will carry trains up to 14 metres above street level and forms a critical component of the 15.6-kilometre Ontario Line. Once complete, the line will run from Exhibition Place through downtown Toronto and connect to Line 5 Eglinton at Don Mills Road.

The Ontario Line is projected to serve nearly 390,000 daily riders, significantly reduce travel times across the city, and improve access to tens of thousands of residents and jobs in Toronto’s east end. The project represents a major expansion of rapid transit infrastructure aimed at reducing congestion and supporting long-term economic growth.

The Government of Canada is contributing more than $4 billion toward construction of this project through a joint funding arrangement with the Province of Ontario.
