- The project is the first metro project in the world to pursue this recognition
ACCIONA received recognition during the 3rd Forum on Concessions and PPPs in Social Infrastructure, held in São Paulo on April 7, for its commitment to sustainability in the construction of Orange Line 6.
The project is the first metro project in the world to pursue this recognition, reinforcing ACCIONA’s leadership in sustainable practices across the construction sector.
Currently seeking the FAST-Infra Label, the project demonstrates the implementation and maintenance of sustainable practices during the construction of São Paulo Metro’s Orange Line 6. FAST-Infra is a major international certification that recognizes projects committed to sustainability across 14 social and environmental categories.
Orange Line 6 is advancing a range of initiatives aligned with the requirements of this ambitious infrastructure project certification framework, including the promotion of circular economy practices and the efficient use of resources through the reuse of uniforms and the use of recycled aggregates, as well as decarbonization-focused measures such as replacing on-site fossil-fuel-powered equipment with biofuel alternatives.
It has also been recognized for its inclusion and gender initiatives, including training hundreds of women to work on the project or to generate income through entrepreneurship, as well as for its ongoing investment in workplace safety through training and awareness initiatives that strengthen a culture of prevention among its workforce.
Orange Line 6, which will connect Brasilândia in northern São Paulo with São Joaquim Station in the city’s central area, is the largest infrastructure project currently under construction in Latin America. In total, it comprises 15.3 km of line with 15 stations, 18 ventilation and emergency exit shafts, as well as a control center, maintenance facilities, and train stabling areas.
The adoption of objective certification frameworks such as FAST-Infra highlights the rigorous application of the most demanding sustainability criteria in major infrastructure projects such as those developed by ACCIONA.
