ACCIONA and its partners, ACS and Meridiam, have been awarded the “P3 Deal of the Year” for the SR400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta.
The award, granted by the financial publication The Bond Buyer, recognized the project’s innovation, its financial structure, and the direct benefits the new infrastructure will deliver to the community. José Manuel Castillo, Financial Analyst for ACCIONA’s Concessions division in the United States, accepted the award on behalf of the company at today’s ceremony in New York.
The SR400 Express Lanes highway project in Atlanta, Georgia – delivered by a consortium of ACCIONA, ACS and Meridiam – covers the design, construction, and 50-year operation of a major new express-lane corridor. Overseen by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA), construction is due to begin in Spring 2026 and is one of the largest highway projects underway in the United States.
With an investment of approximately $10.8 billion (EUR 9.8 billion), the project will add two managed lanes in each direction running for approximately 25 kilometers (15 miles), as well as an additional managed lane in select sections. This expansion is designed to increase capacity, improve traffic flow and enhance long-term mobility across the region.
KEY PROJECTS
ACCIONA has a growing presence in the U.S., delivering innovative, technology-driven solutions across a range of major projects.
In Louisiana, ACCIONA is leading the design and construction of the Calcasieu River Bridge, a critical infrastructure upgrade that will enhance connectivity and safety along Interstate 10. The project incorporates advanced engineering solutions to improve traffic flow and resilience, ensuring long-term durability for one of the region’s key transport corridors.
In addition to transportation infrastructure, ACCIONA recently completed the renovation of the Tampa Bay desalination plant, returning it to record output following a comprehensive modernization of key systems and equipment. In California, the company will design, build and operate and maintain the Doheny Ocean Desalination Plant in Orange County — a state-of-the-art facility that will strengthen local water-supply resilience and provide a reliable source of drinking water for the region.
