- ACCIONA, together with the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, will lead a pilot project to reduce energy consumption in the Hoz Tunnel on the A-8, in Cantabria
ACCIONA, along with 19 other partners from the European Union, is participating in the CIRCUIT innovation project, part of the Horizon Europe funding program, to promote the transformation towards greener, more digital and more resilient transport infrastructure.
The project, whose objectives revolve around the axes of innovation and sustainability, aims to promote the digitalization of the sector through the construction of intelligent, more efficient and safer infrastructures; to validate technologies that minimize environmental impact; to promote circularity in the industry; and to reduce energy consumption in the construction and operation phases. Similarly, this initiative aims to identify mitigation solutions that can be applied in future actual public procurement processes.
The technologies developed in the project will be tested in operational environments through five pilots located in several EU countries, each focusing on one or more of the strategic pillars: digitalization, recycling, reuse and energy.
ACCIONA, together with the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, will lead Pilot Project II, which will be carried out in Cantabria, in the Hoz tunnel on the A-8 highway and on the N-623 road. In this pilot project, which focuses on the pillars of energy and recycling, sustainable asphalt mixes will be used, as well as adaptive lighting systems and remote control of ventilation systems to reduce the tunnel’s energy consumption. In addition, as a contribution to the digitalization pillar, ACCIONA is participating in the development of a digital platform interoperable with traditional infrastructure design tools and BIM (Building Information Modeling). This platform will be used to facilitate the incorporation of sustainable innovations and technologies in the company’s projects and to quantify the positive impact they generate, thus facilitating decision-making towards the development of more sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
