  • The new milestone includes the finalization of the northern portal and the first finished section of the 2.3km Moss Tunnel, an essential part of the new railway line

ACCIONA, as part of the MossIA join venture, has successfully completed a new milestone in the construction of the Sandbukta - Moss – Såstad railway for Bane NOR, in Norway.

The milestone includes the finalization of the northern portal and the first finished section of the 2.3km Moss Tunnel, an essential part of the new railway line. For travellers arriving in Moss from Oslo, the northern tunnel portal is now a visible landmark, marking the entrance to the new double track line towards Moss city centre.

In addition, the company has also completed other work such as the installation of drainage infrastructure, cable ducts, two technical buildings and landscaping on the surface, as well as preparations for the northern section of the track area, including foundations for track switches and light masts.

THE PROJECT

ACCIONA and Implenia were awarded the design and construction of nine of the 10-kilometer Sandbukta - Moss - Såstad (SMS2A) project for Bane NOR. The main objective of the project is to increase capacity and reduce travel time on the Østfold line.

The new double-track railroad runs through the municipality of Moss and requires the construction of two main tunnels: the 2.7 km long Mossetunnel in the north and the 2.3 km long Carlbergtunnel in the south. Alongside these, the Mossetunnel escape tunnel and a parallel escape tunnel in the Carlberg tunnel are also under construction.

The project is part of Bane NOR's Intercity program, aimed at promoting connections between the country's main cities and easing traffic congestion in the catchment area of the capital, Oslo.
